Distances and Connectivity

Shimla was named the Summer capital by the Viceroy of India in 1863 during the British Raj of India. Mandi and Kullu fall to its north, Kinnaur in the east, the state of Uttaranchal in the south and Sirmaur in the west. The town was initially constructed in order to accommodate no more than 20,000 people but today, there are more than 24 lakh people living here.

Shimla is popular among the youth, with people moving here for Mandi, Solan, Kullu, Spitti and Kinnaur – for its Excellency college, Medical college, BPOs; basically for the sake of education and with the hope of finding employment.

While in Shimla, it is imperative to walk around and try to soak in the history and culture of the place, so as to be able to understand it better. Some monuments/building worth mentioning here are the Indian Institute of Advanced Studies, that used to be the Viceroys house, the Christ Church, the State Library, Hotels Clark’s and Cecil – two of the oldest Oberoi properties, and a small Monastery in the St. John area for the Tibetan marketeers.

Himachal Pradesh is a state that loves its Gods and Goddesses, of whom there are many temples like the Kaamna devi temple, Kaali bari temple, Jakhoo temple and Sankat Mochan.

Aside from the sightseeing, Shimla also houses some great treks like the Naaldera trek which has the best views because it has valleys on both sides. Another famous trek is the pilgrimage to Tara devi.

Mall Road is a simple trek from the hotel, a trek we would like to encourage because of all the wonderful stops along the way, including the Viceregal building and The Cecil. Once you get there, Mall road is so full of quirky little surprises that one can find a new cafe for lunch and for dinner, every day for a week. Zion Being a prominent selection for your perfect stay in Shimla.
